Special Visit and Tour at the Yale British Art Center (Oct. 14)

Join us on October 14 for a special tour of The English Prize, a special exhibit at the Yale British Art Center.

Description of the exhibit from the British Art Center press release:

This October, the Yale Center for British Art will be the only North American venue for an
exhibition that will recount the extraordinary story of the capture of the Westmorland and
the subsequent disposition of its contents. The English Prize: The Capture of the Westmorland,
an Episode of the Grand Tour will bring together many of the works on board the ship
along with details about the various owners of its treasures, forming a remarkably complete
cross-section of Grand Tour collecting at the height of this important cultural phenomenon.
For many elite young men of the eighteenth century, the Grand Tour was a rite
of passage that completed a classical education. It offered an opportunity to acquire taste as
well as to partake in the amusements of fashionable society on the European continent.
